Chief Probation Officer

Supports the Mission of the County and its elected and appointed officials. Exhibits the duty of loyalty as an employer?s representative.
Provides courteous and timely service to the public as the ultimate employer.
Coordinates the organization, staffing, and operational activities for the Probation Department including adult and juvenile probation.
Works cooperatively with other county departments.
Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Probation Department; identifies resource needs; recommends and implements policies and procedures.
Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.
Directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for the Probation Department in all locations; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems; assigns work activities and projects; monitors work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures.
Participates in the development and administration of the probation program budget; forecasts additional funds; directs the monitoring of and approval of expenditures; recommends adjustments as necessary.
Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.
Confers with other County officials and other governmental agencies and organizations regarding probation activities.
Coordinates probation services and activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations; provides staff assistance to the Superior Court Judge; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
Reviews and evaluates court decisions and legislation to assure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, professional standards, and established policies.
Reviews criminal cases presented for evaluation by the Superior Court.
Supervises and counsels adult and juvenile probationers; assists the probation staff with difficult or unusual problems.
Supervises and participates in the preparation of factual reports and recommendations regarding juveniles and adults to the Superior Court; interviews offenders, victims, arresting officers, parents, relatives, school officials and others regarding juvenile and adult offenders.
Represents the Probation Department before the court including the presentation of detailed oral arguments and position statements.
Performs child custody investigations; prepares reports for the court.
Supervises and participates in the preparation and submission of reports regarding termination of probation.
Acts as a functionary in the Colusa County Narcotic Enforcement Task Force.
Performs related duties as required.
Four (4) years of professional probation experience including some supervisory experience.
Bachelors degree with major work in social welfare, probation, corrections, behavioral sciences, law, or public management.
Certificate of completion of course prescribed by P.O.S.T. pursuant to Section 832 of the California Penal Code.
A valid State of California driver?s license and an acceptable driving record.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
