3 Full-time 1 day ago Full Job Description Definition & Distinguishing Characteristics The County of Colusa Department of Behavioral Health is excited to be partnering with the Colusa County Office of Education to serve the students and families of Colusa County through Student Support Grant! We are currently seeking a dedicated Mental Health Specialist who is ready to make to make a difference in the lives of the students and parents in our community.
This is a Limited-Term position with an end date of June 30, 2026.
The Mental Health Specialist will be assigned to the Colusa County Office of Education and will travel to each of the 4 Colusa County School Districts to provide a variety of clinical intervention services including:
1-1 educational counseling with youth; family interventions with parents; educational support to the classroom teachers; presentations to classrooms regarding anti bullying and anti-stigma materials; crisis counseling and information and referrals to other community resources including the main Behavioral Health Clinic for more intensive interventions such as medication assessment and monitoring.

Supervision & Examples of Duties SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Health or designee, the Mental Health Specialist receives technical and functional supervision from the Clinical Program Manager and general supervision from the Clinical Supervisor.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Conduct telephone or in-person interviews with individuals, families, and groups in clinic, home, and community settings to help in the development of client-centered service plans; interview persons requesting mental health services; advise clients on available community resources and serve as a liaison with organizations and service agencies.
Prioritize service requests according to standard triage criteria for assigned health clients.
Work with individuals, families, and groups to develop client centered service plans; assist clients with understanding their problems and developing plans to resolve them; provide individual, and group rehabilitation services for children and/or adults.
Monitor daily progress of persons being treated in psychiatric hospitals to verify receipt of appropriate treatment; develop recommendations for discharge and follow-up treatment planning for clients and their families including making appropriate referrals and other arrangements for client treatment; work with clients' families to secure their cooperation in treatment programs.
Prepare and maintain clinical and administrative records regarding services provided; provide background information as needed to physicians involved in client treatment.
Provide prevention and education services in schools and other community agencies.
Participate in the evaluation of problems presented by potential clients; develop appropriate rehabilitation plans.
Maintain client records in an electronic health record.
May provide crisis services in the clinic and other settings such as the emergency room or the County jail, as needed.
Interpret and explain to community groups the social and emotional factors pertaining to emotional and substance abuse disorders in order to provide a better understanding of the social, environmental, emotional, and physical problems experienced by a family in crisis.
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of rehabilitation services and various treatment modalities.
The concepts of recovery and resiliency.
Biological, behavioral, environmental and social aspects of mental and emotional disturbances.
Department services and policies.
Confidentiality laws.
Mandated reporting, parents' rights and referral procedures.
Various treatment modalities.
Curriculum for domestic violence, anger management and chemical dependency.
Substance abuse support and prevention methods and practices.
Child development and parenting theories and practices.
Welfare and probation codes.
Community services available to clients.
Modern office procedures and equipment including computers.
Word processing and other related software applications.
Ability to:
Perform a variety of supportive/rehabilitative services.
Work with partner agencies, family members and clients in developing innovative strategies to meet client needs.
Understand rehabilitation specialist role and deal with clients in a variety of circumstances and settings in accordance with professional standards and ethics.
Assess needs and develop rehabilitation plans for families, children or adults with mental health disorders, alcohol and/or drug related problems.
Maintain confidentiality of information about clients.

Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social welfare, social work or related field.
Experience:
Two years of experience in a community mental health setting.
License or Certificate:
Possession of or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License.
